Tent, Model: Hadi

A tent is usually associated with fun and camping. But for refugees, it’s home. In using it as a fabric, I wanted to emphasize the importance of a tent for people who’ve had to flee their homes and live in temporary housing. After buying the tent at used-merchandise store Emmaus, I de-constructed it, which was very difficult because of the stitching and tape. I then placed my patterns on the fabric and started cutting. My goal was to to maintain its identity as a tent by keeping original details, like the zipper in the back (see photo). It also illustrates the importance and glamour of recycling. The beauty of an outfit is in the details!
