The Hope Look

Bed Sheets & Sleeping Bag, Model: Rojda

Bed Sheets & Sleeping Bag, Model: Rojda

I dyed a white blanket blue, leaving white spots to create the feeling of an open sky to express ‘hope.’ I then quilted jasmine shapes into it to make it puffy (see photo), and subtly symbolize Syria. The t-shirt, made from bed sheets, has pockets on its long sleeves. The pants are made from sleeping bags, keeping their details. Like tents, sleeping bags are a necessity of life for refugees. The half skirt starts in the front and wraps around to the back. Again, both of these fabrics were purchased from Emmaus, a Paris second-hand store. (I’m happy to report that I am now custom-producing the jacket, which has become a popular item.)
