Jasmine Dress
I wanted to create something unexpected—a glamorous juste-au-corps (close-fitting) corset dress made from a blanket. Because of the thickness of this fabric, it was difficult draping it on the dummy to create the shape of the corset. But it ended up being my favorite. The bed sheet sleeves feature jasmine flowers embroidered by Syrian women in a Beirut collective organized by Tight Knit Syria, a non-profit that supports displaced Syrian women and helps market their beautiful handmade products locally and internationally. Jasmine symbolizes Syria for me, and is my favorite flower. Its scent always brings back childhood memories. I purchased both materials from Emmaus, a Paris-based organization that sells used merchandise and helps people in need. As soon as I saw them, I knew I wanted to combine them in an outfit!
