Campos Community Garden

‘Take whatever you need,’ a woman tells me, smiling from behind a vegetable bed. This quiet place is part of the ‘green corridor,’ a cluster of gardens on East 12th Street. Everything that grows here is organic and the produce is shared with the entire neighborhood, bringing together an often forgotten community. A mural painted by the local children, called Save the Earth, frames the entrance, addressing the environment. Its colors are vibrant, full of life and hope, but the message is somber and urgent.
