Owl Pot

Red clay with glaze, 33 x 15 cm, Artist’s Collection (Photo: Edgar Kanaykõ Xakriabá)

Owls are part of everyday life for the Xakriabá. In our territory there are various species, some with lighter colors and others with darker. They also vary in size. The pygmy owl is the smallest, and the great horned owl the largest. The song of this caburé (pygmy owl) announces the arrival of the rainy season.

The glaze was extracted from brown, white, black, and red toá, a very light mineral.
