Hummingbird Pot

Red clay with glaze, 33 x 16 cm, Artist’s Collection (Photo: Edgar Kanaykõ Xakriabá)

Swallow-tailed hummingbirds alert us to both births and deaths by the noise they make with their wings. They are slightly larger than other hummingbirds. They’re grey with some brown spots, have a small dark stripe over their eyes, and long, thin beaks. I was inspired to make this pot because it’s a beautiful bird that contributes to the pollination of plants in our cerrado (region).

The glaze was extracted from black rock, and red and grey toá, a very light mineral.
