Snake Pot

Red clay with glaze, 36 x 16 cm, Artist’s Collection (Photo: Edgar Kanaykõ Xakriabá)

This pot was inspired by several reports of the existence of an enchanted snake that doesn’t die in our territory and caves. It presents itself in many ways. It can appear as a normal-sized snake, as a huge one, or as one with a serrated head. Most of the time it doesn’t allow itself to be seen by two people at the same time; only one of them can see it. It’s said to have the power to attract people, so we should avoid going into the forest alone.

The glaze was extracted from black rock; white toá, a very soft mineral, was used for the details.
