Winter Evening

Oil on gallery wrapped canvas, 14” x 18”, Artist’s Collection

With no regard for the freezing cold, a woman has fled from her tormentor, desperate to escape his abuse, and seeks solace in the peace of the night. The porch light dramatically illuminates her as she huddles weeping on the steps as the Northern Lights quietly dance in the sky.

(Setting: Hatcher Pass, Alaska)

Curator’s Note: Visible in northern latitudes like Alaska, the Northern Lights or ‘Aurora Borealis’ are billions of colorful flashes of light that appear to dance in the sky, created when charged electrons and protons collide with gases in Earth’s upper atmosphere.
