The Bookkeeper
Digital drawing, archival pigment inkjet print on fine art paper, Limited edition of 5, 42 x 29.7 cm, 350 USD
Latif was at the top of his class in the School of Finance when he was recruited as the bookkeeper for the Pasha responsible for Ottoman coin production. Latif was young, clever as a fox, and knew every loophole in the financial law. But this Pasha was corrupt, and had a lot of “business” aside from his official job. Until his tragic beheading, it was said Latif laundered money equal to the Sultan’s own treasury. The Pasha’s stables had burned to the ground, exposing huge underground tunnels where millions of gold coins were waiting to be sold.
