Prow
Prow is a sculpture that’s abstractly nautical, a theme I circle back to from time to time because of my endless fascination with ships and boats. While all my other large works were site-specific commissions, I created Prow just because I wanted to! It’s made of heavier plate steel than most of my pieces. Usually we’re able to manipulate the steel cold, using big machines and applying tremendous pressure. However, the tight curve in the 1”-thick lower element of this piece had to be worked at forging temperatures of 1800 degrees Fahrenheit.
