Apex

Forged & fabricated bronze, 28' 6" x 10' x 17'

Designed as the centerpiece of the college’s renovated campus, Apex is one of the few pieces I titled before designing it. I find powerful inspiration in creating sculpture for school campuses because of the value I place on higher education and its connection to my hopes for the future. I worked toward a fountain form I felt would illustrate this in an abstract manner. I was also responding to the vast scale of the space, and the college’s desire to have a piece that would be a landmark statement. The technical challenges of constructing a huge cantilevered sculpture of bronze (a material lacking significant tensile strength), and then transporting it in one piece nearly 400 miles, made this an exciting and challenging project.

Commissioned by the College of DuPage, Glen Ellyn, Illinois (2013)
