The Scholar

Food coloring & acrylic on canvas, 70 x 50 cm, 3.000 Turkish Liras

Being a scholar was a prestigious occupation that promised eternal respect in Baghdad during the Abbasid period (762-1258). Important works in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, physics, medicine, geography, poetry, literature, and philosophy were translated into Arabic from Greek, Chinese and Persian, and further developed by Islamic scholars. Not surprisingly, this period is considered the Islamic Golden Age.

Inspired by a 16th-century Persian miniature painting
