Spirits of America (1977)

Elliott Pinkney, South Los Angeles, Materials n/a, Size n/a

This mural is located inside the Dollarhide Neighborhood Center in the LA County city of Compton. Children and adults from various cultures, some famous, some not, form a cavalcade across two walls. This community center is named after Douglas Dollarhide, who in 1961 became the first African American elected to the Compton City Council. He later became mayor.
