La Vuelta
This piece seeks to demonstrate the many journeys and forms we take throughout life to find our place in the world. I called it ‘Return’ because it looks as if this creature is returning to its master. I drew the image on a plexiglass plate. Then because of tyvek’s texture, I used the palm of my hand rather than my baren to print the image.
Curator’s Notes: A monotype is made by drawing onto a smooth, non-absorbent plate (frequently copper) and then pressing a sheet of paper to its surface to transfer the image.
Baren generally refers to a hand tool with a flat bottom and a knotted handle used in Japanese woodblock printing to burnish the back of the paper in order to transfer ink from the plate to the sheet.
