Circulos
Lately I have been working on a series of collagraphs where you glue materials of different textures onto a printing plate to create interesting marks and tonal effects. For this piece, I glued cut-up photographer cardboard mats to the plate. Knowing my love for using recycled materials, a friend had given them to me. After many trial and errors, I successfully made this print, pressing paper to the plate with my homemade baren. I called this piece Circulos because of its many circle shapes.
Curator’s Note: Baren generally refers to a hand tool with a flat bottom and a knotted handle used in Japanese printing to burnish the back of the paper in order to transfer ink from the plate to the sheet.
