I’d Rather Have a Spoon

Found objects (altered), 30 x 20 cm, Private Collection

I’d rather have a spoon.

When I first read this line in Peter Lightfoot’s letter to his daughter Frances about wanting to use a spoon, my heart leapt with excitement for here was a kindred spirit, another spoon lover.

Spoons have always held a special significance for me as I was brought up in Sheffield, a city renowned for its cutlery industry. My father worked in the cutlery industry, and we always had lots of sets of spoons of different sizes, nestling together in their satin-lined cases.
