Denabagi

Acrylic on sheep wool sofreh kilim, 160 x 110 cm, £3000

Denabagi is the Farsi name for Iran’s oldest kilim pattern, even found on pottery dating back 7,000 years in southwest Khozeshtan Province. Qashqai tribal women included it in their sofreh and kilim weavings. I tried to research its meaning, but no one seems to know it. They just hear their grandmothers say it.
