Oasis Community Garden
One’s curiosity is piqued by a marble bench supported by lion heads, and dolls hanging upside down wearing ‘I Love NY’ t-shirts. Once a barren lot filled with drug paraphernalia and garbage, the Oasis has been part of the neighborhood for the last 40 years. After the garden was cleared of debris, a ‘sand beach’ with Adirondack chairs was created to give neighborhood children the illusion of being by the sea. A group of children reminds me of my sister and me playing with our friends by the riverbank in Greece.
