Elizabeth Street Garden

Leasing this lot in the early ’90s, Elizabeth Street Gallery owner Allan Reiver cleaned it up, landscaped the grounds, and filled it with statues from his gallery to create an outdoor museum. In 2019, a new housing project was approved, setting the stage for a classic battle: green space v. affordable homes for seniors. Both fine causes. It’s hard to imagine the neighborhood without the garden’s many activities, from Halloween costume making to summer concerts and theater performances. Let’s hope a compromise can be reached.
