Hare Pot

Red clay with glaze, 34 x 15 cm, Artist’s Collection (Photo: Edgar Kanaykõ Xakriabá)

My mother first showed me how to model a tapeti (Brazilian cottontail) in 2002. I made this Hare Pot twenty-one years later. It represents my awakening to Xakriabá ceramics. Hares were part of the Xakriabá diet, especially when food was scarce in our territory.

The glaze was extracted from black rock, and yellow toá, a very light mineral.
