Animal-Man Pot

Red clay with glaze, 36 x 16 cm, Artist’s Collection (Photo: Edgar Kanaykõ Xakriabá)

The pot represents an enchanted being that lives in the forest and caves of Xakriabá territory. He has a human form. Tall, strong, and covered with hair, his skin is very rough, making it impossible to pierce. And he chases humans. This piece is also a metaphor for our region, the cerrado—though dry on the surface, it holds a reservoir of water within.

The glaze was extracted from black rock, and yellow and grey toá, a very light mineral.
