Neurons Misbehaving

Wire, real and artificial hair, wood block & textile, 40 x 30 cm, Artist’s Collection

Peeling off the layers of personality,
I am looking for you

When my father died from dementia, I realised how much I lacked knowledge about this illness. I researched the neurological processes taking place in the mind, the amount of accumulating tauT that affects behavior, language, vision, critical thinking. This sculpture represents the brain, and all the changes that strike it. I am making something invisible, visible. Black patches are signs of sticky plaque. I wanted to bring my father into this piece, and used his knitted jumper, artificial hair of his coloring, plus arranged found objects.
