Forget Me Not
Dyed fabric, wire, artificial flowers & beeswax, 50 x 30 cm, £550
Not gone to those who love me, since gone is not always lost
Our ancestors live within us through many generations. We are the carriers of their identity and life stories. Although death is imminent in nature, and physically removes the person we love and care for, the memory of them forever lives within us. The fabric I used here is an old sheet that belonged to my father. Bringing this into my work makes it real. The holes in the wired base represent the punctures in our identity that we endure during the grieving process and strive to mend—trying to keep up with the speed of entropy.
