Eligible Fluency
As in Constant Embrace, I used a canvas that had been sitting in a closet for a year. This time, though, I painted it more heavily. But if you look closely at the bottom panel, a bit of the underlying white gesso shows through where it’s stressed. Among the central image’s diverse ephemera is a tribal shield I photographed in Papua New Guinea. Sometimes a piece just needs ‘something’ to finish it off. The coats of arms seem to ‘fall off’ the bottom, while a glued paper ‘intrudes’ from the left.
