This is another lucky combination of diverse ephemera with an appropriate background. I mixed several scraps of paper together and then transferred the face of the woman, adding the text over it. The palette’s somber tone reflects the woman’s desperate look. Many people think collage is just a matter of cutting out images and sticking them together on a flat surface. But to get the bits to work isn’t easy and takes a lot of trial and error. The color palette and image size are important, as well as the relationship of the images to each other. At the end of the day, if the composition isn’t working for me, it’s scrapped. And I have to start over.
