Bholenath (Lord Shiva)
The meaning of Bhole is “innocent,” and Nath is “king.” Lovingly addressed as Bholenath, Lord Shiva has several other names that describe his personality or his dharma (the qualities he represents). It may sound like a paradox that someone known for his wrath is called Bhola. It’s said that it is very easy to please him, so his devotees address him as Bholenath. In this painting, I have depicted his devotees making their offerings to the Lord.
Lord Shiva is part of Hinduism’s holy trinity along with Brahma (the Creator) and Vishnu (the Preserver). The Supreme Lord, he creates, protects, and destroys the universe in order to transform it. He is often shown holding his weapon, the trident.
