Bhole Nath (Lord Shiva)

Gouache on paper, 32 x 40 cm, 350 USD

Bhole Nath, meaning “innocent,” is one of Lord Shiva’s many names that describe his various qualities. Lord Shiva is the most powerful amongst all the Gods. It always surprises me how someone who is so powerful and full of wrath can be innocent at the same time. It seems antithetical to his character. In this painting, I have shown the Lord and his worshippers.

Curator’s Note: Lord Shiva is part of Hinduism’s holy trinity along with Brahma (the Creator) and Vishnu (the Preserver). The Supreme Lord, he destroys the universe in order to transform it. He is often depicted with a serpent around his neck.
