The Musician
This long-legged strolling musician carries musical instruments on his way to a traditional “Forrós party” in Maranhão State’s backlands. Forro describes a typical northeastern Brazilian dance and its music created by a singer, and musicans playing an accordion, triangle, and tambourine.
This piece is from the Reception Committee series of 27 woodcuts produced for the 2004 World Cultural Forum in São Paulo. It was exhibited at the entrance of the Pólo Cultural Anhembi, a large outdoor venue with a capacity of 103,200.
