This tapestry is from my ‘Aegean to Mediterranean’ collection. The galleon figure is commonly seen in classic 16th-century Iznik tiles and symbolizes the Ottoman navy. Blue is usually the predominant color, while clouds and seagulls escort the vessel. Surprisingly, ships are always shown sailing westward. I wanted to give the mast a three-dimensional effect by embossing wrap over the base weaving.
