Seraphim

Food coloring & acrylic on canvas, 70 x 50 cm, 3.000 Turkish Liras

Tasked with guarding the throne of God, seraphim are the highest ranked angels in Judaism and Christianity. They’re sometimes depicted as "burning angels" because they burn with God's love. They are depicted with six wings, each carrying a flaming sword as they bring the flame of love from heaven to earth. The figures of four seraphim support the enormous dome of Istanbul’s world-famous Hagia Sophia.

Inspired by a 12th-century Byzantine icon
