As a person that loves text and spent a great amount of time painting graffiti, I made this work (as well as ‘LIBERATION’ and ‘Free Them All’) as shrines to raw text forms painted with the most-crude spray paint I could find. For decades I’ve helped paint signs for protests, and last year was no different. I found this process to be a way of turning the very act of writing political messaging into the centerpiece of a shrine built by painting techniques.
