Pantocrator translates from Greek as ‘Almighty.’ In Byzantine iconography, it refers to Christ as all-powerful judge of humanity. Here, the Pantocrator, with a great gold and copper glass halo, appears at the top of the fiery mount, rendered in rough textured shards, and angular shapes of smooth glass edged with gold glass tesserae. I felt moved to add the lower left photo insert.  Its meaning is open to interpretation. (Original photos: Wendy F. Lang)
