Oulan Bator

Acrylic, oil pencil, felt pen & collage on canvas board, 70 x 50 cm, 500 €

Ulan Bator means ‘red hero’ in Mongolian. The Amerindians, the first residents of the Caribbean’s Lesser Antilles, covered their skin with ochre, hence this work’s title. I used several Creole words in this piece : Gade, ‘look’ ; Gade yo an zye a yo, ‘look them in the eye’ and Koute, ‘listen.’
