Catching a Few Winks

Relaxation and food take priority over the spectacular Aegean view (after all, both horse and driver have seen it their entire lives!). The island in the foreground is probably Cunda Island—referred to today as Alibey Island—connected to Ayvalik town by a causeway built in the late 1960s. Located just 10 miles east of the Greek Island of Lesbos, it’s the largest of Turkey’s Ayvalik islands archipelago, and a popular resort town. Ayvalik’s red-tile roofs are alluded to down below.
