This is another wall-hung piece where I specifically express the sense of gravity—fallen flowers at the base of the sculpture. My basic technique, and goal, was play. I had a series of plastic boxes where I’d make multiples of all sorts of shapes and sizes—a stockpile of soft clay “playthings.” I’d spread them out, and then, without thinking ahead, compose the sculpture spontaneously. I could, and often would, go back while it was drying to make changes or additions, but the primary piece had to be made in an unplanned fashion.
