My ‘life of imagination’ can be divided into three periods: Initial Enthusiasm, Education, and Synthesis. The works here, though, reflect my passage through all three. Their genesis lies in the two sketchbooks that were my constant companions as a young artist. The first sketches were made between 1990 and 1992 while I was a university art student. The second holds my impressions between 1992 and 1995. Seeking to ‘mature’ artistically, I abandoned them for many years. However, I’ve come to realize they convey the same colorful joy for life and optimism that underpin all my art. They might even be their purest expression. In reviving them as limited-edition prints, I kept faithful to the original with some, but altered others—reflecting later artistic impulses. I hope they will resonate emotionally with you, evoking a quiet moment of personal introspection.
