I often reimagine and reinterpret Biblical figures without defining gender. In this piece the figure carries the cross, a symbol of Christ’s passion and death. The dress fabric used here came from a collection of vintage fabric scraps I’d saved. This deity is seen emerging from a 19th-century wooden box, aptly placed on a fireplace mantle.
