Adam and Eve

Acrylic, watercolor & gold on passepartout cardboard, 50 x 35 cm, Artist’s Collection

According to Islamic tradition Ibris (Satan) told Adam and Eve that if they ate the forbidden fruit they would become angels and live in Heaven forever. But when they did, God punished them by sending them down to Earth.

This painting depicts the Garden of Eden, and both the heavenly and hellish potential of human beings. Free will gives them the power to choose between good and evil. Such choices should be based on wisdom, represented here by the Tree of Knowledge.
