A Wedding in Anatolia

Acrylic, watercolor & gold on passepartout cardboard, 45 x 110 cm, Artist’s Collection

This painting depicts a Turkish wedding, an integral part of Anatolian culture. The henna ceremony held at the bride’s house, the haircut and dressing of the groom at his house, the bride’s leaving her family’s house, and the kocek dance performed by a young male dancer cross-dressed in female attire, constitute some of the rituals of traditional Anatolian weddings.
