SEARCHING FOR SHAPES

Calico

The fabrics used in my collection are very unconventional: tents, blankets, bed sheets, and sleeping bags. Together, they reflect my two conceptual concerns—the Syrian refugee crisis, and recycling/sustainability. However, they’re all quite challenging to work with. To find the proper shape for the outfits, I draped calico on mannequins. Calico is traditionally used by fashion designers to explore shapes.
