Lilah’s Forest
Lilah’s Forest is a large painting on a traditional gesso panel. The inspiration is from Greek myths often set on islands where anything might happen. When I was painting this, I was also enjoying looking at the work of English painter John Craxton and his Greek landscapes. I don’t often put human figures in my paintings but here there is a poet—you may not immediately see him—but he is in harmony with the world in which he finds himself, and with all the creatures that inhabit the forest. Hopefully you can descry in the gold background that the forest is wild and dense. Night and day are in balance.
Curator’s Note: Linda first applies traditional gesso, a mix of chalk (whiting) and rabbit skin glue, to create an absorbent surface for applying watercolor.
