Hawk Pot

Red clay with glaze, 35 x 15 cm, Artist’s Collection (Photo: Edgar Kanaykõ Xakriabá)

My relationship with hawks began in my teens, when I used to catch young ones and tame them. They were allowed to freely roam around the village, but would return after a few calls—landing on my head or arm when they wanted to be fed. Rather than domesticating them, I started to reproduce them in clay.

The glaze was extracted from white and red toá, a very soft mineral.
