Anteater Pot

Red clay with glaze, 35 x 16 cm, Artist’s Collection (Photo: Edgar Kanaykõ Xakriabá)

The giant anteater was used as a source of food for the Xakriabá. Its hide was also used medicinally to treat boils. This animal was very common in our cerrado (region) 30 years ago. Its representation in ceramics is a way of familiarizing my children with this species, so rarely seen nowadays in our territory.

The glaze was extracted from black rock, and yellow and brown toá, a very light mineral.
