Yog

Acrylic on board, 35 x 35 cm, 500 NZD

This is one of my first paintings about Romany life, and is featured in a book of poetry titled, They Lit Fires: Lenti Hatch O Yog, by Raine Geoghegan, a Welsh-born writer of Romany descent. The painting features a yog (Romany for “campfire”) with clothes drying on a bush. The violin reflects the fact that many Roma are musicians. A vardo, a traditional Romanichal wagon, rests atop the hill.
