This painting is about whakapapa, Maori for “genealogy.” My Romanichal DNA reflects the countries my ancestors traveled through. They are represented here by traditional teacups from some of those countries, including India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Albania, Scotland, and New Zealand. One of the ways my ancestors made a living was selling tableware and pottery.
