The Triple Goddess
The Triple Goddess refers to the archetypes of young maid, mother, and crone. I love The Pretenders’ song Hymn to Her, which talks about this concept. I wanted to illustrate it with Romany women wearing traditional hairstyles. Here, the maid, pregnant, is also the mother. The older woman shows her an egg—a symbol of fertility. A “dead man’s string” (mulengi dori in Romani) represents the length of life, and ties everything together.
