I am being held together by barely visible threads of memories
My work tells the story of personal loss in response to my father’s journey from dementia to death. It addresses subjects that are often taboo, and rarely discussed—aging, the impact of this disease on a person and family members, and the complex processes of death and grief. My art also challenges the way society deals with dementia, and reflects my research into its transformative physical effects. It explores how those who are ill try to make sense of the world through a haze of confusion. And how we who are left behind try to continue living lives often burdened with guilt. My mission is to remind people about life’s fragility, and the importance of hope, care, and memories. The present moment is all that matters. I hope that sharing my experiences through my work helps others to heal.
