When It Is Time

Oil on gallery wrapped canvas, 20” x 16”, Artist’s Collection

When It Is Time was inspired by a poem I wrote about suicide after experiencing the euthanasia of a beloved dog, the end of a 20-year marriage, and the tragic and unexpected loss of a cherished horse all in the same year. Sleeping Lady Mountain (the nickname of Anchorage, Alaska’s Mount Susitna) rests in the distance. The figure imagines that she sees dolphins playing in the waves, and that the Sleeping Lady is calling to her. Creating this painting helped me heal exponentially. Alaska has the second highest suicide rate in the nation.
