This is the first in a series of three paintings. I used gold leaf to give a feeling of elegance and beauty. It also provided me with a totally different surface to work on. The predator bird atop the tree looks down for an opportunity to grab its prey. Tree roots and flowers surrounding the gold oval try to cover and protect the life within it from harm. Inside the oval, a school of fish tries to hide from the predator eyeing them from above. They’re safe for now, but for how long? The bird represents the dangers we are facing. The fish represent the weak and oppressed.
