Cigerci ve Kulhanbeyi/Liver Salesman and the Hoodlum
Aziz Murat Aslan
Mixed media on paper, 20 x 28 cm 300 USD
Street vendors like the liver salesman were a regular feature of Ottoman life. The artist’s interpretation is based on a puppet made by master Ragip Tugtekin, who was possibly inspired by depictions in Orientalist paintings. He’s paired with the Hoodlum, a frequent character in Karagöz plays.
